We can factor by grouping:
Multiply the coefficient of the square term, 6, by
the constant, -2 ... 6(-2) = -12
Look for factors of -12 that add to 1 since that is
the coefficient of the r term...
-12 = 4(-3) and 4-3 = 1
Replace the r with -3r + 4r
6r2 - 3r + 4r -2 Note this actually the same as the original equation
since -3r+4r = r
Now factor the first 2 terms and the 2nd two terms
3r(2r-1) + 2(2r-1)
= (3r+2)(2r-1)
