The Distributive Property of Multiplication Over Addition says:
a(b+c) = ab + ac
This problem gives an expression that looks like the left side of that equation [ that is, a(b+c) ]. So, to use the distributive property means to make an expression that looks the right side of that equation [that is, ab+ac].
