Apply the distributive property (assume all variables are non zero):

u^2 (1-15/u)

 

i'm so confused i know i have to distribute but i dk how to distrubute this

The Distributive Property of Multiplication Over Addition says:

      a(b+c) = ab + ac

 

This problem gives an expression that looks like the left side of that equation [ that is, a(b+c) ].  So, to use the distributive property means to make an expression that looks the right side of that equation [that is, ab+ac].

 

     u²(1-15/u)          [ a=u²,  b=1,   c=(-15/u) ]

     u²(1) + u²(-15/u)          [ab+ac]

      u²-15u

        [note:  u≠0 because it is the denominator of the original expression]

It is given that u^2 (1-15/u)

 

u²(1 - u /15) 

Now what is meant here is to distribute the u² (u  squared) that you see up there to the

other two in the parenthesis, the  '1' and ' -u/15' just look after writing what is on the left

because it is the same thing on the right side.
