Suppose x+y-=(Square root of 2). Find the maximum value of x^2+y^2. Hint x^2+y^2=(x+y)^2 - 2xy

Sure. The original hint is that X^2 + y^2 = (x + y)^2 -2xy
 
we know that x + y = sqrt(2), so
((x+ y)^2 = sqrt(2)^2 = 2
 
so the entire right side of the formula = 2-2xy
