could someone help me multiply this?

Multiply the following binomials

(y+2)(y+5)

 

i thought it was y^2+10 but its not. what am i doing wrong?

=y^2 + 2y + 5y + 10

=y^2 + 7y + 10

Haven't you heard of FOIL, the method for multiplying two binomials together?

 

F:  y times y is y squared ... the product of the First items in the binomials

O: +5y ... the product of the Outermost items

I:  +2y ... the product of the Innermost items

L: +10, the product of the Last items in the binomials

 

Final answer: y² + 7y + 10.
