2) multiply
(12.9) x 10^-7
3) if the new mantissa is <0 or ≥10, you need to rewrite that portion in proper scientific notation - and multiply by the exponents part
(1.29 x 10^1) x 10^-7
4) multiply all of the powers of 10 together
1.29 x 10^-6
