This means that we have to move the decimal point a number of units depending on the exponential value on the 10-base:

10¹ (or just 10) means 1 spot to the right.

10² becomes 100, and we move to the right 2.

10³ is the same as 1000, and as such we move to the right 3 units, and so on.

 

Here we have 10⁵, so we move the decimal to the right 5 place:

7.4_^8_^0_^0_^0_^00 → 748,000
