fractions throws me into loops!

It is O.K. to get rid of fractions by multiplying by the LCD.

 

1/4x-1/16=1/8+1/2x

  4x - 1 = 2 + 8x                    [multiply by 16]

  -4x - 1 = 2                    [subtract 8x from both sides]

   -4x = 3                  [add 1 to both sides]

     x = -3/4               [divide both sides by (-4)]

1/4x-1/16=1/8+1/2x

 

(1/4) x - (1/2) x =1/8 + 1/16

(1 - 2)/4 x = (2 + 1)/16

(-1/4) x = (3/16)

-x = (3/16)*4

-x = 3/4

x = -3/4
