Working together, Tom and Jon can clean a car in 5.14 hours. Had Tom done it alone it would take him 22 hours. How long would it take Jon to clean alone?

How do you get
Tt + Tj = 22   ??
Together they take 5.14 hours
You cannot take Tom's time alone of 22 hours
and subtract the time they take together to
come up with Jon's time....

5.14(1/22 + 1/x) = 1   is your equation.

1/22 is part per hour for Tom.  1/x is part per hour for Jon.
Solve for x
