1/2 of class in going on trip, there are 12boys in class and 15 students not going how many girls are in class

 1/5 of class is going on trip, there are 12 boys in class.  15 students are not going. how many are girls?

PLZ clarify:  Is "1/2 of class in going on trip" or is "1/5 of class is going on trip?"
 
Note that the procedure that you use to solve the problem will be the same, but the answer will be different.

If 1/2 of the students are going on the trip, then 1/2 are not going.
15 students are not going on the trip.  This represents 1/2 of the class, so the total # students in the class is 30
 
If there are 12 boys in the class, there are 18 (30-12) girls in the class.

x=15,  x=2x15,  x=30 the number of kids in the class.  30-12=18 girls
