there are 7 8's, so 7*8=56 which is two times the sum of 1 2 3 4 5 6 7
1+2+3+4+5+6+7=28 and 56/2=28

and so on

n n-1 n-2 n-3 n-4...1
add the columns
n+1 n+1 n+1 n+1 n+1.....n+1
there are n of the (n+1)'s
but n*(n+1) is twice the sum of the numbers from 1 to n so you divide the product by 2
n(n+1)/2 is the formula you use
the triangular numbers are:
1(1+1)/2=1
2(2+1)/2=3
3(3+1)/2=6
4(4+1)/2=10
5(5+1)/2=15

100(100+1)/2=5050 is the 100th triangular number
