The domain are the allowable values of x, i.e. the values of x that give you real-valued solutions for y.
for y = -x4 +42 every real value of x will work so domain is (-∞,+∞).
That being said what can you tell me about any possible restrictions on values of y (which of course you get by substituting all possible values of x)?
