Question

Sam won 30,000 after taxes . He invested some at 5% and 3% at the end od the year he earned 1340 in interest . How much did he invest at each amount?

Answer 1

5(x) + 3(30,000-x) = 134000

5x - 3x = 134000 - 90000= 44000

2x = 44000

x = $22,000 invested at 5%

30,000-22,000 = $8,000 invested at 3%

22x5 + 8x3 = 110+24 = 134
