The dimensions of a matrix tells you how many rows and columns there are. So like if it said that Matrix A had dimensions of 2 x 3, that means that the matrix has 2 rows and 3 columns.
Knowing the size helps you determine what matrices can have operations performed on them … in order to add or subtract two matrices, they must have the exact same dimensions. And in order to multiply two matrices together, you need the number of columns in the first matrix to equal the number of rows in the second.
