I have a large word problem using 2 points. I got my slope, but now i have to find my value of B for y=Mx+B. the equation that i tried is not making sense for the answer. can you help?

You can use the pt-slope formula as well.  

 

If your point on the line is (x₁, y₁):

 

y-y₁ = m (x - x₁)

 

y = mx - mx₁ + y₁

 

Example:

Slope is 3, point on the line is (1, 2).

 

y - 2 = 3(x-1)

 

or

 

y = 3x - 3(1) + 2

 

y = 3x -3 + 2

 

y = 3x - 1

 

 

Answer 2

The slope-intercept form is y=mx+b. Once you have a value for m, take the x-y coordinates for one of the two points (either will work) and plug them into the equation.  You now have numeric values for 3 of the four variables and can simply solve for b.

 

b=y-mx

 

 

Answer 3

Once you got y = Mx+B, you plug in one of the two given points, for example (a, b).

b = Ma+B

So, B = b-Ma.
