Well, I'm seeing this question a year and a half after you posted it, but the answer is that resting heart rate is usually lower in people with good cardiovascular fitness. That's because, as you exercise and improve your cardiovascular fitness. Your heart and lungs work more efficiently, so that your heart does not have to pump as fast to achieve a good cardiac output. Your heart muscle strengthens, so that it is able to pump out more blood with each beat, so heart and pulse rate are generally slower.
