Peter does not always think before he opens his mouth. He loses many bets and now might owe his friend, Danny, a lot of money. His most recent bet that the Canadiens would beat Boston cost him $10. Peter already owed Danny $5 for a football bet and $8 for a baseball bet. He won $12 in another hockey bet. How much does Peter either have or owe Danny?

Hi Julie,

 

If you owed your sister $10 but your sister owed you $8, you would owe her only $2 because 10 - 8 = 2.

 

So you need to add up all of the money that Peter owes Danny and subtract any money that Danny owes Peter to figure out how much he owes.
