During the previous year, the city sent 290,000 tons of waste to landfills. The cost of disposing waste at the landfill is $75 per ton. How much did this cost the city?

   I suggest you write down all the data from the story problem:

 

1.  290,000 tons                      Cost=  $75  per one ton         1 ton= $75                290,000 tons= How much money?

 

2.  Now, you  have 290,000 tons, so just multiply by 75, and you're done.
