two cars are traveling in opposite directions on a freeway. two hours after meeting, they are 310 miles apart. if one car is traveling 15mph faster than the other car find the speeds of the two cars

Let the speed of the slower car be 'x' mph, that of faster will be x+15

 

in 2 hrs : slower travels 2x miles and faster 2(x=15) i.e. 2x+30 miles

 

So,  2x + 2x + 30 = 310

 

4x = 310-30

 

4x = 280

x = 70

 

Speed of slower car is 70mph and that of faster car is 85mph
