8x-21(8-x)=4
8x-21(1/8x)=4
Multiply both sides by 8x: 82x-4(8x)-21 = 0
Let u = 8x to obtain u2 - 4u - 21 = 0
(u-7)(u+3) = 0
u = 7 or u = -3
So, 8x = 7 or 8x = -3
8x>0 for all x, so the equation 8x = -3 has no solution.
Thus, 8x = 7
Taking logs of both sides, we get log(8x) = log7
x(log8) = log7
x = (log7)/(log8)
≈ 0.94
