Odds against winning means that his chances of losing is 4/5. That is close to 100%. So his chances of winning is
1 - 4/5 = 1/5

Probability is always favorable event/total events. To find the total number of events we add together the favorable and unfavorable numbers (=9). Thus the probability of Andre winning is 4/9ths.
