1 g / cm³ is the density of water.  We want to get that cm³ to in³.  One way of handling this is like this:

 

1g/cm³ = 1g/(cm*cm*cm)

 

1g/(cm*cm*cm) * (2.54 cm / 1 in) * (2.54 cm / 1 in) * (2.54 cm / in) = 1g/cm³ * (2.54 cm / 1 in)³
