A linear term is a term with a degree of 1, or simply x. In this example, 2x2 is a quadratic term because the x has a degree of 2, and the 5 is just a constant. -3x is the linear term because its degree is 1 (x1 or simply x). Think of it this way too: a linear equation is in the form y = mx + b. The x in a linear equation is raised to the power of 1, thus making it linear.
So the linear term is -3x, choice D
