Applying SImple Math to Everyday Life Activities
A submarine dipped 25 feet from the surface in order to conduct research about the different types of fish. Ten minutes later, a shark was about to ram into the submarine, so the submarine had to rise 15 feet from its current position to get out of its path. What is the different in feet between this new position and 30 feet below the surface.
I hope this story helps out was enjoyable!

Now that I think of it, this describes the International Space Station: Due to gravity pulling it down, the Space Station was orbiting 25 kilometers below standard orbit, so it fired the jets and rose 15 kilometers. Now, to avoid some rapidly-approaching "space junk" how far must the Space Station orbit drop to be 30 kilometers below the standard orbit?

So, using Michael J's imaginative story: the submarine started 25 feet below the surface, then rose 15 feet to avoid a torpedo. How far does it have to dive to be 30 feet below the surface?
