Michael J.: THX; I have carefully read your comment and, respectfully, strongly disagree.
On this forum, I am not a teacher (grading and evaluating students) or a researcher (writing papers) but a tutor, coach, mentor -- not "the sage on the stage" but "the guide by your side." Thus, I am not concerned about "demonstrating my knowledge" or "supporting my work," but with effectively (using a wide variety of sources/methods/strategies) writing answers that will both explain/illustrate concepts and will encourage/motivate students. They are asking for help and I want to help, not provide/demonstrate/support -- I'm not writing research journal papers here and I'm not getting paid for this (I'm observing the variety of questions and the vast variety of answers).
--p.s.,
THX for your frequent participation on this forum -- at all hours of the day and night. Also, I think you are improving your answers (you have written that you "learned" from other tutors). The Answers Forum is so good for tutor discussion that WyzAnt is considering a tutor-only forum for these "teacher's lounge" comments.

You should be concerned about demonstrating your knowledge because it proves your expertise as a tutor and that you understand the topic. I have seen your answers and a lot of them are written in your own way, which is a great thing. When you use someone else's work to help others and not incorporate your own thinking, you are teaching the student that it is okay to do the same. It gives them the idea that they don't have to put in effort to learn the material.

Michael: Oh, I neglected to say that some of your recent answers are thorough and quite well written. Would you mind if I refer a student to one of your answers?
I'm not interested in "reinventing the wheel" or of getting the credit or even of finding students (I do this to observe/learn; I could earn many times as much consulting).
I agree that modeling is important. And motivating students to put forth effort to learn (both learn the material and learn the process of life-long-leaning) is important. And, sometimes (I'll confess), I even leave a typo in a message or answer to see whether anyone will find it and have the nerve to suggest a correction.

Also, thank you for acknowledging my improvements. Tutoring in general is not an easy job because there are things people know and things people don't know. Experience and subject level complement each other.
