How much of a 60% orange juice drink must be mixed with 10 gallons of a 30% orange juice drink to obtain a mixture that is 50% orange juice?

Answer 1

Let x = number of gallons of 60% OJ

 

      10 = number of gallons of 30% OJ

 

   x + 10 = number of gallons of 50% OJ

 

0.60x + 0.30(10) = 0.50(x + 10)

 

0.60x + 3 = 0.50x + 5 

 

0.10x = 2

 

x = 20 gallons
