A solo artist performing as one of several acts has exactly one hour to be on stage. It takes him an average of 4 minutes, 30 seconds per song played, as well as 10 minutes to finish setting up, take things down, and introduce himself to the audience. How many songs should he plan on playing? Round your answer down to the nearest integer.

4 minutes 30 seconds is 4.5 minutes.

 

He has a total of 50 minutes to actually play.  So the number of songs is 50 / 4.5 = 11.111...

 

Since we assume he isn't playing a fraction of a song, you round down, as stated in the problem to 11 songs.
