I'm not exactly sure what I'm being asked:what does y equal given the following equation? X=.5y^2-3 

what do I need to do for this? I'm given choices, but I'm unsure how to get one of the answers in the first place. Do I plug the Y choices into the x equation or vise versa?

Since you have to find what y is,

 

 

Add 3 on both sides of equation.

 

X + 3 = (1/2)y²

 

 

Multiply both sides of equation by 2.

 

2(X + 3) = y²

 

2X + 6 = y²

 

 

Square-root both sides of equation.

 

√(2X + 6) = y
