Technically the roots are called complex roots when b² - 4ac < 0.

An imaginary number is a complex number for which the real part is 0, so you would also need b = 0.

It means there is no real root.  There will be 2 imaginary roots, as you have to add and subtract the squareroot you acquired, regardless.
