Dots sells T-shirts ($24) and shorts ($26). In April, total sales were $10,028. People bought 8 times as many T-shirts as shorts. How many T-shirts and shorts did Dots sell?

Let X = number of shorts sold  

Then 8*X = number of T-shirts sold  

 

Total sales $10,028  ==>  8*X*(24) + X*(26) = 10028

192*X + 26*X = 10028  

218*X = 10028  

X = 46  

 

So 8*X = 368  

 

So Dots sold 368 T-shirts and 46 shorts  

 

Check:  368*24 + 46*26 = 8832 + 1196 = $10,028
