(0.3)(1600) represents the amount that Phil gives to employees, which is $480.

Maybe this is simpler as a fraction (3/10)(1600) =  (3)(160).

 

Each employee gets 1/4 of this amount which is 480/4.

1600 contains 160 $10 dollar bills.  Take $3 out of each.  160 x 3 = 480    So he took a total of $480 to divide among 4 employees, so each got $160
