y^(3/5) means to cube y and then take the fifth root, or equivalently to take the fifth root of y and then cube the result.
For example, if y = 32 then
32^(3/5) = 5√(323) = 5√(32768) = 8, or
32^(3/5) = (5√(32))3 = (2)3 = 8
