its y to the 3/5 power. have no idea how to do this..

y^(3/5) means to cube y and then take the fifth root, or equivalently to take the fifth root of y and then cube the result.  

 

For example, if y = 32 then 

 

32^(3/5) = ⁵√(32³) ^{= 5}√(32768) = 8, or 

 

32^(3/5) = (⁵√(32))³ = (2)³ = 8
