Andre hit four more home runs than twice the number of home runs Larry hit. Together they hit 10 runs. How many home runs did Andre hit?

So for Andre:

 

He hit four more: +4

 

than twice the number of Larry, L = Larry: 2L

 

So for Andre: A = 2L + 4

 

Together they hit 10 runs: L + A = 10

 

Now we have two equations:

 

L + A = 10

 

L + 2L + 4 = 10, solve for L

 

3L + 4 = 10

 

L = 2, now take this and plug it into Andre's equation:

 

A =  2L + 4

 

A = 2(2) + 4 = 8, the amount of home runs Andre hit.
