Organic reactions in which water molecules are eliminated as two functional groups join occurs during dehydration synthesis and is also a type of condensation reaction.
Dehydration synthesis reactions are combination or synthesis reactions that occur between two functional groups resulting in the elimination or water molecules. We call them synthesis reactions because they yield products with a larger structure than their reactants. Additionally, it is a type of condensation reaction because water molecules are eliminated during the course of the reaction.
