A chord is the combination of three or more notes played simultaneously.
A simple example would be playing/singing 'Do', 'Re', and 'Mi' all together at once (in any key).

Music chords are a combination of two or more notes played simultaneously to create harmony and give a sense of progression to a melody. They are the building blocks of music and the foundation of most songs. Chords are named after the root note of the chord and can be Major, Minor, Augmented, Diminished, or Suspended, among others. They are essential in determining the key and the mood of a song, and musicians use them to create melodies, harmonies, and different tonal colors in their compositions.

Chords in music are created by playing three or more distinct notes simultaneously, or consecutively. Major and minor triad chords consist of the root note, third (major or minor respectively), and perfect fifth. for instance, on guitar, an open position C Major chord can be played by pressing the third fret of the A string, second fret of the D string, and first fret of the B string. Therefore, The three distinct notes in a C Major chord are C,E, and G.

Of course playing _only_ those three strings would give you two C's and one E, but the three open strings would add the G. Major and minor triads are the most important and probably most common chords in "classical" music from, say, 1700 to the early 20th century. There are two other types of triads, and many chords with four or more notes. Seventh chords have four notes, and they're more common in jazz than triads.12/06/22
