The mass of solute per 100 mL of solution is abbreviated as (m/v). Mass is not technically the same thing as weight, but the abbreviation (w/v) is also common.

How many grams of sucrose are needed to make 715mL of a 38.0% (w/v) 

sucrose solution?

These are terrible units as % should only refer to percent by mass, volume, or moles. On top of this they use weight when they mean mass. Anyways, 38% w/v means 38 grams of solute per 100 ml of solution. This means to obtain the grams of sugar, multiply 718 ml of solution by (38 g S/100 ml solution).
