Use Graham's law of effusion Effusion rate for SO2 / Effusion rate of X = √ Mol mass X / Mol mass SO2.
In this case the time of effusion is inversely related to the effusion rate, so Graham's law becomes
Effusion time for SO2 / Effusion time for X = √ Mol mass SO2 / Mol mass X.
2.11 min / 1.68 = √ 64.1 / X solve for X by squaring both sides of equation.
1.577 = 64.1 / X X = 40.6 g /mole
As for part 1, I am not familiar with SO4 gas.
