The product of 8 and number means to multiply the number by 8. "Increased by 6" means to add 6. So the equation would be:
Let x=the number
8X+6=104. Then you solve for X. Does that help? If I need to go farther let me know.

You got it.

Hold on a minute, I just noticed that "and a number increased by 6" was one phrase surrounded by commas. This means its 8 time the number plus 6 or
8(x+6)=104 so we multiply it out:
8x+48=104 then subtract 48
8x=56 then divided by 8
x=7.
sorry about the early mix up. I didn't see the comma's.
