Take each part of the sentence one bit at a time.
" five times..." gives 5*("the subtraction of 3 multiplied by a number and 12...").
Then, " 3 multiplied by a number" gives 3x, where "x" is an unknown number.
The phrase "subtraction of..." is placed in front to trip you up, but it's telling you that the two numbers being mentioned after are being subtracted. So, now we have 5*(3x - 12).
"Equals" is obvious, and "60 more than" means 60 + ("15 multiplied by the number").
so, at the end we have,
5*(3x-12) = 60+15x
