How do you tie tutoring to your career?

This is a great question because it allows the reader to understand my passion for remediation. I work for a Juvenile Detention Center. This means a majority of my students are in need of tutoring, or remediation. I work with students on a spectrum of needs and backgrounds- varying from discipline, mental health, and grade levels. Every day that I am at work, I am involved in bettering and tutoring kids of many age groups and grades. I am also the after school tutoring program coordinator for my school.

Tutoring helps me reinforce the content that I have learned from my academic coursework and builds on my communication skills. As a tutor, I understand that each student has an individualized style of learning, where one would have to learn to communicate with different types of learners. Excelling in a subject area is nice, but it is a greater skill to be knowledgable in something and then being able to communicate that in a way that others can fully understand.
