A body of mass 2 slugs is dropped from a height of 450 ft with an initial velocity of 10

ft/sec. Assuming no air resistance, find (a) an expression for the velocity of the body at

any time t and (b) the time required for the body to hit the ground.

a) Equation for velocity v = v₀ + gt; v₀ = 10 ft/sec and g = 32 ft/ssec²; v = 10 + 32t;

b) Equation for motion y = v₀t + gt²/2. For y = h = 450 ft we get equation for time t: 450 = 10t + 16t²;

16t² + 10t - 450 = 0; t = 5 sec
