Three girls have a large pile of pants which need sewing. Michelle sews twice as fast as Amber and three times as fast as Tee. If it would take them 6 hours to fix the pants with all three working together, how long would it take Michelle if she does it all herself?

If Michelle does x pants in one hour,

Amber does x/2 pants, and

Tee does x/3.

 

Together they sew six pants

 

x + x/2 + x/3 = 6

6x + 3x + 2x = 36

11x = 36

x = 3.27

 

Together they need three and a quarter hours.
