Let's call an alkene by the general formula
R1R2C=CR3R4
Where R1; R2; R3 and R4 are the radicals bonded to the carbons.
Let's use the general formula X2 for a simple halogen molecule. The reaction will be:
R1R2XC - CXR3R4
An atom of halogen is added on each carbon of the bond. Also note that this product has stereosiomerism. Depending on the catalyst, the main isomer produced will change.
