For those who are not in the military already, after taking the ASVAB the first time, you must wait one month if you want to retake the test. After that second attempt, if you want to test a third time, you must wait an additional month. After that, you must wait six months between any subsequent re-tests.
Can you retake the ASVAB?
Short answer is ‘yes’. Yes, as long as you are not in the military now. In most cases, once in the military your ASVAB score does not change. So, if you are not currently in the military you can test again. This will allow you the opportunity to increase your chances of enlisting in the branch of service you want and open you to more career fields. Focus on improving these four areas: math knowledge skills, arithmetic reasoning skills, reading comprehension skills, and word knowledge skills. These are the four sub-tests which are used to calculate your AFQT score. Note that there rules about when you can retest and some of the rules are branch of service specific.
