When I took the California bar, it was a grueling 3-day event without computers writing with pencil/pen and paper, and now it's a two-day one that you can type. The theory behind that is that being lawyer requires both physical and mental agility and stamina--you can't do it in steps. The bar is attempting to simulate real life lawyering.
Why isn't the bar exam administered in steps?
