Why do Excel line breaks not transfer into Notepad?

When copying a cell with line breaks in Excel and pasting it into Notepad, the text is pasted onto one line. Why is that?

The line breaks do not copy over because excel views each cell as an individual unit. So the line breaks when you copy data come from the cells. If you have data in one cell and try to copy it other programs will view it as one line of data.
