How do I check my results from this equation? -4x=36. I have the solution I think, but I am unsure. The solution I have is x= -9.

I am having issues with remembering the steps I need to take to solve, and check my problems. I have never had algebra before, and I am finding it to be a little difficult for me.

If the solution is -9, then substitute -9 back in for x in the original equation:

 

-4x = 36

(-4)(-9) = 36

36 = 36   YES

 

So the solution is correct
