Why won't excel let me sort a list of dates (dd/mm/yyyy) from oldest to newest? How can I fix it?

Excel stores a date as one long numbers. To sort oldest first, you sort in ascending order

This assumes that your cells are formatted as dates, not entered as strings of text.

This seems like a bug. You should be able to sort any data including dates as long as you've elected to sort by selecting your column heading, then clicking the sort function in the column heading.
