Why is data validation so important in Excel and data analysis?

It's the principle of "Garbage in, garbage out." If the data does not adhere to validation rules, any analysis made based on it is virtually meaningless. For example, if a grading scale was 0-100 but validation was not made on the grades entered, negative values or values over 100 would make an accurate grade point average impossible.
