How can I disable automatic sorting in pivot tables?

I have worked with many pivot tables and this is the most frustrating feature ever - all the moreso because there is an option to preserve formatting. Does it work? Um, no.

I have researched this and, to my knowledge, there is no way. MS knows about it but simply can not be bothered to do anything about it.

Maybe someone else will prove me wrong.
