Why isn't Excel .xlsb format used more frequently?

People are not aware about the benefits of it namely less memory and space utilization amongst others. Moreover, xlsx can be used across platforms like andriod(google sheets), windows, linux(open office) so that can be challenging in a sharing/collaborative environment.
